More Chinese-owned apps appear to be under the scanner in India at a time when geopolitical tensions between India and China are at their peak. Reports suggest that authorities are analyzing up to 275 more applications to detect possible violations of user privacy and threats to national security. This follows the ban on 59 Chinese-owned apps last month, a list that included the hugely popular TikTok social media app. The latest list of apps under the scanner is believed to include the incredibly popular game PUBG Mobile, the AliExpress e-commerce platform, and another popular game Ludo World.

The new list of 275 Chinese applications under the scanner is being revised to detect possible threats or security breaches. The information these apps collect, as well as what they potentially share with the Chinese government, is potentially being analyzed. In China, the 2017 National Intelligence Law governs all technology companies that are based in China or are Chinese owned. The law requires all companies to share all the information that the Chinese government may request. This is something that worries governments around the world, including India.

PUBG sees a partial stake in Chinese tech giant Tencent, AliExpress is owned by Alibaba, Zili is an app from popular phone maker Xiaomi, Resso is a Bytedance music streaming app that also owns TikTok, to name a few. This list includes not only apps from Chinese tech giants like Xiaomi, Tencent, Alibaba, and Bytedance, but also developers and companies Meitu, LBE Tech, Perfect Corp, Sina Corp, Netease Games, and Yoozoo Global.
